Northern Arizona Health (NAH) is a group of hospitals and outpatient centers in northern Arizona. gate6 was brought in to create an engaging employee portal that addressed the needs of their diverse employee roles (from chef to surgeon, administrator to lab tech) and across multiple campuses.
Multiple stakeholder groups and differing requests were not always aligned with user needs. In order to deliver the best product, we let testing results show the best path forward.
Employees wanted an easier way to get the information they needed. By building the easiest paths the new intranet encouraged involvement, and we made it look fantastic.
"We are so happy with the results!"
"The gate6 team brings so much value."
The existing employee intranet was outdated, frustrating for users, and underutilized. We worked with stakeholders and interviewed users so we could prioritize their goals and create clear features from them. Based on validated user data we determined needs and priorities so the site structure and design would be built to support them.
Through our analysis, we identified user tasks based on the most critical user needs. By involving actual users, we were able to statistically confirm that the newly proposed information architecture (IA) delivered faster, easier task completion against the existing IA. Using the new and improved IA, wireframes of key screens created and were tested with a cross-section of the diverse NAH employee population.
Using what we learned from testing wireframes, we created mood boards and laid out basic designs. A complete style and interaction guide was created for the development team to ensure consistency throughout implementation and across device types from desktop to smartphone. The resulting intranet met stakeholder requirements and delighted users across the organization.
